child teeth decay (ECC) |forms,causes&prevention- dentalland

If you have your first baby and do not know how to care about his/her teeth , then read this article very well....

Babys are (usually) born without teeth and their first teeth begin to erupt and emerge into mouth at 6 months and the last one appear at the age of 3.5 years .

These teeth are called milky teeth ,and they are 20 in number -5 in each quadrant.
They are replaced by permanent ones between the age of 6:12 years (mixed dentition),
So milky teeth will remain in his/her mouth for about 12 year ! That's why we have to maintain them sound.
One of the most serious proplems that you may face it is ECC (early childhood caries)

ECC is a condition characterized by presence of caries in 1 or more teeth at preschool age or even missing tooth due to caries .

Causes

  • Teeth after eruption are immature and prone to caries (we will talk about it later )
so feeding babys for long period in presence of bacteria will ultimately produce caries.

  • Also avoid bottle feeding during sleep as it may cause severe ECC -it is rampant caries affecting all teeth in surfaces immune to caries -.

Prevention

After the teeth emerge into mouth
ECC

  • You should visit the dentist
  • Children should have balanced diet  (avoid carbohydrate as you can)
  • They should be encouraged to drink from cup
  • You should clean his/her teeth regularly (home care )
